Recent sightings

Golden-bloomed Longhorn beetle Golden-bloomed Grey Longhorn beetle (Agapanthia villosoviridescens).

13 June 2015: Fragrant Orchid (Gymnadenia conopsea) in one of the scrapes. Seen by Dick Lister and Marylene Mansfield‐Williams.

9 May 2015: Biorhiza pallida, a gall wasp. Strictly speaking, we saw the galls on young oak trees rather than the wasp itself. Seen by Marion & Tony Gillie.

1 February 2015: Long-tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus) and Wren (Troglodytidae) on the peripheral paths. Seen by Marion & Tony Gillie.

11 January 2015: Seven-spot Ladybird, green lacewing Chrysoperla carnea agg., and there were several of the tiny Moss Chrysalis snails Pupilla muscorum under the stones in the scrapes. All spotted by Martin Harvey.

5 July 2014: Dark Green Fritillary (Argynnis aglaja). Seen by Nick Furtek. Although not a recent sighting, the report only reached us in mid-December. This is the first Dark Green Fritillary to be seen at Holtspur Bottom for a number of years!

13 October 2014: Fox (Vulpes vulpes). Found by Nick Bowles in Lower Meadow. Sadly, dead.

16 September 2014: Pear Slug Sawfly larva (Caliroa cerasi) . Seen by Tony Gillie on Blackthorn near the Whitehouse Lane entrance to the reserve. (Not the prettiest of creatures!)

16 September 2014: Grass snake (Natrix natrix). Seen by Tony & Marion Gillie on the lower perimeter path. Sadly the snake was dead.

19 August 2014: Female Wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi) seen by Tony Gillie, Pete Stevens, Ched George, Paul Huckle, and Marion Gillie in Upper Meadow

7 August 2014: Hobby (Falco subbuteo) seen by Pete Stevens and a ragwort pulling team over Triangle Bank.

22 July 2014: Striped Lychnis moth caterpillars (Shargacucullia lychnitis) seen by Tony Gillie on the perimeter path.

16 June 2014: Common Lizard (Zootoca (Lacerta) vivipara) seen by Dick Lister on one of the old hay bales on the perimeter path.

11 June 2014: Bee orchids (Ophrys apifera) seen by John Shaw on Triangle Bank.

3 June 2014: Dock bug (Coreus marginatus) found by Brenda Mobbs and Marion Gillie, in the entrance area of the reserve.

17 May 2014: Common lizard (Zootoca (Lacerta) vivipara) found by Peter and Tess Ogden, on the public footpath. (Sadly it didn't wait to have its photo taken!)

26 May 2014: Nursery Web Spider (Pisaura mirabilis) with egg sac. Found by Marion Gillie (while digging out Ragwort!) in the Upper Meadow.

15 May 2014: Golden-bloomed Grey Longhorn beetle (Agapanthia villosoviridescens) found by Marion Gillie in Lower Meadow.

May 2014: Hairy Shieldbug (Dolycoris baccarum) found by Brenda Mobbs.

2 March 2014: Cylindroiulus caeruleocinctus (a millipede) found by Martin Harvey on Triangle Bank.

2 March 2014: Common Swift caterpillar (Hepialus lupulinus) found by Martin Harvey in the Upper Meadow.

26 November 2013: Slow-worm (Anguis fragilis) found by Wendy Wilson and Mark Duckworth near the entrance to the reserve.
